Ephemeral Cartographies

Ephemeral Cartographies

Print was used as a medium to explore alternative strategies into the design process. Hardground, softground and acid were used to uncover the etchings on the copper plates. Ink and paper transferred the images from the copper plates. An early 19th century printing press was used to develop the monoprint’s.

These three intaglio print series explore the relationships between irresolute subjects. The origin of the inquisitions began with a base generated from a static field; a sculpted form and a static moment from a sequential series. The relationships in the prints were mapped with nodes, datum’s, grids, points of intersection, connections, disconnections and juxtapositions - building up a framework for cognitive deliberation. The relationship between ideas and thoughts are illustrated with dynamic fluctuation across the series.

Print Series:

A- Delimiting Matter

This series created a cartography of relationships by etching through feeling. The initial etch was the established ground through which reactionary consciousness was given privilege to explore spatial exchanges. The landscapes of exchange are captured at various moments through the spatial evolution.

B- Intangible Cartographies

The cartography of absence is explored here. These prints map the intangible connections across a network of latent trails which sit dormant across the landscape. The subject is the nationally protected, historic cattle trails (Vias Pecuaris) in Madrid, Spain. This print series explores conditions that are not always apparent in the landscape and difficult to map.

C- Parasitic Propagation

The developing affairs of social territories are investigated in this print series. The first etch hosted a field of matter which was instigated by its intrinsic growth. The shifting states throughout the cyclic prints capture brief moments of interaction.

Interactive 3D Cinema

The two sets of three dimensional surfaces were projected on from two sides to create multiple textured projections and a dynamic interlaced experience in the interstitial void between the panels.

IDEAS Day Festival

IDEAS Day Festival

The 3D Cinema kicked off the Ideas festival with a series of videos curated by music.

Screens

Screens

The two screens used for projection were made from Tyvek panels. 26 panels were laser cut from a pattern that was created by an algorithm that was designed across each set of panels.

Screen Construction

Screen Construction

The projection screens hung from a steel scaffolding suspended by tension cables. One side of the screens were fixed to the scaffolding allowing the screens to move freely and interact with the wind, adding more dimension to the screens.
